We are The Minutebots!
The MinuteBots are a FIRST Robotics team from St. Paul, Minnesota's Central High School. Every year, through a mix of teamwork, expert mentorship, problem-solving, and "gracious professionalism," we create a new robot to compete against teams from across the United States and world in the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC).
Our team first organized in 2013, with a mission to help students of all backgrounds grow and develop as young engineers, programmers, and businesspeople. To this end, we are one of the few FRC teams to cover all expenses for every student who wishes to join the team. In this way, we seek to reduce the economic barriers to this unparalleled STEM education opportunity for St. Paul Central students. Our team embodies the entire engineering firm experience. Students have the opportunity to participate with a Programming, Business, or Build team where they will have the opportunity to learn new skills and put them to the test. On the Build team, students learn to work with machinery, electronics, pneumatics, wiring, 3D printing, and Computer Aided Design (CAD). On the Programming team, students learn to use multiple programming languages (mostly Python and a bit of Java) for a variety of applications. On the Business team, students develop skills in communicating professionally both within their organization (team) and to families, fans, donors, grant foundations, corporate sponsors, and fellow FRC teams. No matter what team students join, they learn from, and work side-by-side with, adult mentors. In addition to participating in FRC competitions, the MinuteBots host and engage in a variety of community outreach events to share their passion and enthusiasm for STEM education. Since 2023, we have exhibited at the Minnesota State Fair, St. Paul's Grand Old Day celebration, and the Science Museum of Minnesota. We have also hosted a free summer coding camp for 7th through 9th graders, and hosted other St. Paul FIRST teams for the annual FRC kickoff event. We love to learn together, and we seek to encourage others to share our love for STEM and robotics to as many people as we can! |
