Who Are The MinuteBots?
The MinuteBots are a robotics team from St. Paul Central High School in Minnesota. Our mission is to help students of all backgrounds grow and develop as young engineers, programmers and businessmen and women by using a mix of teamwork, expert mentorship, and problem-solving. We participate and compete against teams from across the globe in the FIRST Robotics Competition every year, and were the first SPPS to qualify for the FIRST World Championships.
Although The MinuteBots build some of the most competitive robots in Minnesota, the team is about more than just nuts and bolts. It embodies the entire engineering firm experience. Students learn about the programming language Java, and have experience working through computer science problems. Team members create a business plan and pitch to local business for sponsorships. And instead of simply jumping into saws and drills, the team learns the value of the design process and using CAD (Computer Aided Design).
The MinuteBots are also committed to giving back to the community. Team members are required to volunteer at least 10 hours a season with a STEM program of their choice. The team travels to events such as county fairs, and mentors fellow middle and elementary school robotics team. They even brought a NASA astronaut to speak at Central!
